ToggleWhat is the 10×10 memorization Technique?
The 10×10 memorization method is simple yet effective. You need to have multiple memorization sessions to apply this technique as it is going to be time-consuming. Allocate 3-4 sessions per day to give yourself sufficient breaks and let this technique work wonders for you. In this method, you will have to read the text 10 times while looking at it, and then 10 times without looking. If the verse is longer than 5-6 words, then break it down into smaller chunks and apply the technique.
This method is applicable for both beginners and intermediate students who are still developing a strong hifz routine and increasing their intensive hifz course lesson limits every day.
How Does the 10×10 Hifz Method Work?
This technique is usable for stacking verses for revision along with the new lesson daily. Let us understand it through an example of the verse from Surah At-Taubah (Juz 9).
بَرَآءَةٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ
First, break the text into two parts to make it easier to memorize. Let’s focus on the 1st part: “بَرَآءَةٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ”. Read this chunk 10 times while looking at the text, and read it slowly and clearly to perfect your tajweed rules. As you reach the 7th repetition, gradually increase your reading pace. Ensure this chunk is saved in your memory with both audio and visual aids.
After completing 10 readings, close your Mushaf and revise it once. Check for smoothness and correctness, and then revise it 9 more times. If it’s not correct, stop and reread the chunk 10 times while looking at the Mushaf. Now, move on to the 2nd part of the verse: “إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ”. Read it 10 times while looking at it, ensuring you recite each word properly and apply the rules of Tajweed. As you reach the 7th repetition, increase your pace and try to be fluent.
After completing 10 readings, close your Mushaf and review it once. If it’s perfect, revise it 9 more times; if not, redo the whole process with this chunk. Now, open the Mushaf and recite the whole verse with Tajweed while looking at it. Then, close your Mushaf and review it 10 times.
How to memorize the Entire Page With the 10×10 technique?
After one verse, you have to move on to the next verse but you need to consolidate the previous verse with the new one. You will memorize the 2nd verse in the same way by breaking it down into smaller chunks. Once you are done with the 2nd verse, recite the 1st verse 10 times followed by the 2nd verse 10 times. Keep stitching the verses together with 10x reviews for each.
This approach is one of the effective Quran memorization techniques that helps in solidifying your retention and understanding.
Conclusion
Choose any memorization technique, but make sure to apply it correctly and consistently to see the desired results. It may take time, but the verses will stay in your memory just as you memorized them.
