Quran memorization involves various methods, and this method combines traditional memorization techniques with spaced repetition. The aim of the “20-20 Method” is to provide ample revision time to get perfect in Tajweed, recitation, and hifz. You have to read the verse 20 times by looking at the Mushaf and then 20 times from your memory. Whenever starting the next verse, revise the previous verse 20 times and combine it with the new verse. Ensure that every time you recite 20 times.

The 20:20 Hifz method is a Quran memorization technique that involves spending 20 minutes on new memorization and 20 minutes revising previously learned sections each day, reciting each verse 20 times. This balanced approach, among various Quran memorization techniques, helps improve both memorization and retention, making it easier to progress consistently in Quranic Hifz.
In the 20:20 hifz method, you will break down your class timing into 3 slots every day to apply this method correctly.

Dawn slot (after Fajr)
This is the slot for new memorization where you will learn the given verses with repetition. You will break down your verses into 2 parts. The second part will be memorized after Zohr.

Noon slot (between Zohr and Asr)
After Zohr you will revise the verses you memorized after Fajr and make sure they are perfectly stored in your memory. Now, you will memorize the next verses and combine them with the previous ones.

Evening slot (after maghrib)
This will be the last slot of the day so you will revise the verses that you have learned after Fajr and Zohr 20 times each. Then combine them and revise together 20 times.
How does 20:20 Hifz Method Work?
We will take the example of Surah Al-Jum’aa (28th Juz) which has 11 verses and let’s see how this Quran hifz method works. So, we have 3 slots in a day to apply the 20:20 memorization technique. This technique is confidently applied by the eminent tutors of Hifz Academy in their online hifz classes.
Slot 1: After Fajr
We will break down the whole Surah in 2 parts with 6 verses for the 1st slot and 5 verses for the 2nd slot.
يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْمَلِكِ ٱلْقُدُّوسِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ ١
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى بَعَثَ فِى ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ رَسُولًۭا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَإِن كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ لَفِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ ٢
وَءَاخَرِينَ مِنْهُمْ لَمَّا يَلْحَقُوا۟ بِهِمْ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٣
ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٤
مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا۟ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًۢا ۚ بِئْسَ مَثَلُ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ٥
قُلْ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوٓا۟ إِن زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا۟ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ ٦
This is the 1st part you will memorize at dawn time. Follow the given table to apply the 20:20 technique.

Slot 2 = After Dhuhr
After Dhuhr you will revise the 6 verses of Surah Al-Jumaa that you memorized after Fajr. make sure you revise those verses together 20 times. Now read the below written 5 verses 20 times by looking at the Mushaf and 20 times without looking at the Mushaf. You can play an audio of these 5 verses or try reciting on your own.
وَلَا يَتَمَنَّوْنَهُۥٓ أَبَدًۢا بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ٧
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْمَوْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ مُلَـٰقِيكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَـٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ٨
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا نُودِىَ لِلصَّلَوٰةِ مِن يَوْمِ ٱلْجُمُعَةِ فَٱسْعَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ وَذَرُوا۟ ٱلْبَيْعَ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ٩
فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةُ فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًۭا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ١٠
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ تِجَـٰرَةً أَوْ لَهْوًا ٱنفَضُّوٓا۟ إِلَيْهَا وَتَرَكُوكَ قَآئِمًۭا ۚ قُلْ مَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهْوِ وَمِنَ ٱلتِّجَـٰرَةِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ ١١
Follow the same patter you followed in fajr. Make sure each vers is recited 20 times and when combines, both are recited 20×20 times.
Slot 3 = After Maghrib
This is a bonus slot where you will just master the entire Surah. Now play the recitation of Surah Al-Jumaa without pausing it. Listen to the Qirat 10 times by opening the Mushaf in front of you and reciting along with the Qari. Then, stop the recitation and close the Mushaf. Recite the Surah 1 time with excellence.
