6446 Quran Memorization Technique & How it works?

6446 Quran Memorization Technique

The 6446 memorization technique is kid-friendly and is considered one of the best Quran memorization techniques. You recite the verse 6 times while looking at the Mushaf, then recite it 4 times from memory. Next, recite it 4 times while looking at the Mushaf, and finally recite it 6 times from memory. When reciting from memory, ensure that there is no error in the lesson and that you can easily recite it smoothly. This method is based on double revision and learning, where you tally back the text to ensure you are on the right path.

What Is The 6446 Quran Memorization Technique?

The 6446 Memorization Technique is a method designed to enhance memory retention and recall. It involves repeating information in a specific pattern: first, after 6 seconds, then after 4 minutes, again after 4 hours, and finally after 6 days. This spaced repetition technique leverages the brain’s natural memory consolidation processes, helping to embed information more deeply over time by revisiting it at intervals that align with the forgetting curve. By practicing this method, individuals can improve their ability to retain and recall information more effectively.

You can divide the class time into 2 spans of 1 hour. In the first hour of the class, you have to read the given verses (4) 6 times. You have to make sure you are reading at a slow pace either by listening to the recitation of the verses or after your teacher. Your Tajweed and makharij must be phenomenal. Read the verses by looking at the text and also try reading out the summary of the Surah to know what you are learning.

Then, try to focus on each verse 6 times. At this moment you are just reciting by looking at the text. After you are done, close the Mushaf and read the 1st verse exactly 6 seconds later 4 times out of your memory.  Then read the 2nd verse 4 times, then the 3rd verse 4 times and then finally the 4th verse 4 times. Combine all 4 verses and read them 4 times.

In your 2nd slot of the class, that is after 4 hours, revise the 4 verses 6 times from your memory, and then look at the Mushaf. Read from the Mushaf 4 times. Close the Mushaf and read 4 times from your memory. Then again open the Mushaf and read it by looking at the text 6 times.

Your revision pattern says to revise exactly after 6 seconds, then 4 minutes, then 4 hours, and finally after 6 days. So do not forget to review the memorized portion after 6 days. This technique can be effectively practiced through online hifz classes, allowing you to maintain a consistent revision schedule.

How Does the 6446 Hifz Method Work?

Let’s take an example from Surah An-Naas from Juz 30th which has 6 verses.

1st Slot

Read the 1st verse 6 times slowly by looking at the Mushaf or follow the audio note and recite after it. Then, close the Mushaf and read the verse 4 times from your memory. If there is an error, stop and open the Mushaf to read again 6 times.

Next, read the 2nd verse 6 times and then close the Mushaf to read it 4 times. Now, combine both verses and read them 4 times from your memory. Last, open the Mushaf and tread both verses 6 times.

Move on to verse number 3 and read it 6 times by looking at it and 4 times without looking. Then again, four times by looking at it and 6 times without looking. Then, move to verse number 4 and repeat the 6446 process. Combine verses 3 and 4 and recite them 6 times. Now recite all 4 verses 4 times.

The next step is to recite verse number 5 six times by looking at the text and 4 times without looking at it. Then again recite 4 times by looking at it and 6 times without looking. Move to verse number 6 and repeat the process.

At the end combine all 6 verses and recite them 6 times together by looking at the text and 4 times without looking at the text.

2nd slot

In the second slot, you can move to the next Surah by revising Surah An-Naas 6 times. Then, start the next Surah from 1st verse and follow the whole 6446 process. You can keep a bookmark with you to tick mark when you are done with the counts. Revise all the memorised portions on the 6th day again.

Conclusion

This memorization technique can be modified to the 3223 technique if you have already memorized a Surah and simply want to revise it to make it perfect. The teachers at Hifz Academy use both variations as per the lesson’s requirements.  Unlike other methods, this way of hifz has double learning and reviewing ways.
