Toggle15 Benefits of Quran Memorization
Hifz Academy has listed 15 benefits of a Quran hafiz and reciter to motivate the readers to step into the blessed expedition of memorization.
1. Getting Enlisted for the Best Ones
Learning the verses of the noble Quran by heart is a tremendous job that is only done by the best and the chosen ones. Prophet Muhammad SAWW said,
“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” ( Sahih al-Bukhari 5027)
This is because you will not only enlighten your knowledge regarding the Quran but also enrich others’ knowledge and understanding. Together, paving the path of guidance.
2. Elevating Ranks in Jannah
Memorizing the Quran will elevate your ranks in Jannah to make you stand out from the rest of the people. The more you memorize, the higher the level of Jannah you will be in.
“The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told [on the Day of Resurrection] ‘Recite [the Quran] and ascend [in ranks] as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be the last verse you recite.” ( Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
This is the most motivating hadith which incites the students to memorize with zeal and passion. All your hard work and dedication will pay off when you are given a king-like status.
3. Shielding the Hellfire
The verses of the Quran are considered to shield us from the hell-fire. Allah SWT has said many times in the Quran that the believers and non-believers are not equal. So, definitely, the one who memorizes the Quran with proper understanding will know what Allah commands and forbids us. The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“If the Quran was to be gathered inside a vessel (heart), Allah will never punish it with the Hellfire.”
Tons of false beliefs, sins, and misleadings can only be avoided if one has the Quran in the heart to refer to.
4. Getting Encircled by Angels
Another enchanting benefit of Quran memorization is that people who gather for Quran reading, listening, learning, and understanding are encircled by angels who speak about them and return to Allah SWT with the news that so and so were gathered for the Quran. Tranquillity and serenity surround such people and angels pray for them too. The Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
“Allah has angels who roam the roads looking for those who mention Allah. When they find the same people who mention Allah, they call each other, saying, ‘Come to the object of your pursuit.’ Then the angels encircle them with their wings up to the sky of the world…”
5. Empowering Own Self
If you memorize the Quran with proper understanding through an intensive hifz program, you will feel empowered. You will never feel the need to ask someone to recite verses of protection for you or recite the verses of shifa, etc. You can look after your recitation and duas by yourself. Also, once you know the translation, you can refer back to the verses when looking for an answer to any issue.
6. Guarding Against Dajjal
Imran ibn Husayn reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Nothing between the creation of Adam until the establishment of the Hour is a greater tribulation than the affair of the False Messiah. (Ṣahih Muslim 2946)
According to this hadith, the most horrifying test would be the test of Dajjal and the only way to stay safe from this false messiah (dajjal) is given to us in another hadith where Prophet Muhammad SAWW said:
“Whoever memorized the first ten verses from Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.”
So, another benefit of memorizing the Quran or any of its verses is that they specifically save you from tribulations and trials. Other Surahs are also noted for their majestic healing, increasing wealth, rendering blessings, offspring, and much more.
7. Attaining Honor from Allah
Allah looks at the person with pride who reads His book and tries memorising it by heart. What better could it be to have the honour of Allah SWT? While reciting and memorizing you need to keep the fact in mind that Allah is all-watchful and must be feeling happy.
8. Intercession on the Day of Judgement
The prophet SAWW said:
“Read the Qur’an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.”(Riyad as-Salihin 991)
What does intercession mean?
It is an action of intervening on behalf of others. So, imagine how beautiful and soothing the feelings would be when the Quran will intercede for his memoriser and reader in front of Allah. If you stay in oblivion, no intercession or help could reach you.
9. Rescuing from the Torments of the Grave
The grave is an untold mystery that will be known only once we are in it. To have light in our grave, and to keep its torments away, the Prophet SAWW said:
“Indeed there is a Surah in the Qur’an of thirty Ayat, which intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is [Surah] Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil-Mulk.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2891)
So, do not forget to benefit from the help of the Quran. If you can’t learn much, memorise at least the Surahs that are told to us by Nabi SAWW.
10. Gaining Infinite Rewards
Each of your deeds is getting noticed and Allah will abundantly reward you for that. It reminds me of another beautiful saying of our Prophet SAWW, where he said
“[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2910)
11. Cleansing both spiritually & mentally
The Quran works like a cleanser. It is not only your soul but your body too that is purified. Whether you are reciting or memorizing the Quran, every single verse will leave a deep mark on your heart if understood clearly. It is noted in one of the Hadith that even mountains would have cried if the Quran was bestowed on them. There are times when you feel spiritually tangled and confused, it is the Quran that paves a blissful path for you to walk on.
12. Healing Physically (shifaa)
Quran, the book of hidayah, is also a cure of many diseases. The very first Surah Al-Fatiha is also called Ash-Shifa. There are many other verses that are compiled together to be recited for healing, curing, and protecting. If you know the Quran by heart, you can easily recite these surahs and verses to heal your sickness or even help others to heal fast.
13. Developing brain and increasing memory
Scientifically speaking, there are numerous benefits of Quran, it not only increases your memory span but helps both the hemispheres of the brain develop if you start memorizing at an early age. The recitation of the Quran is said to be sending alpha rays to the brain that contribute to a positive mood and peace. Allah has said in Quran in Surah Ar-Ra’d.
“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do the hearts find peace”
14. Increasing Focus and Concentration
The recitation and continuous reviewing of Quranic verses increase focus and level of concentration because the Quran is the only book that is read with 100% attention. Even if you make an error, you quickly move back to correct it. When students memorize the Quran, they read a single verse multiple times to perfect their Tajweed, and in doing so, their attention span increases. If we enroll our children in hifz classes for kids and they start learning quran in a young age this will increase their focus and concentration.
15. Remaining in the Act of Ibadah
A hafiz has to keep reviewing the lessons to maintain his hifz, hence he remains in the act of worship (Ibadah). Whether he revises the Quran in prayers, or while driving or walking every second is counted as an Ibadah.
This is how a hafiz will receive a crown on the Day of Judgement, the crown that is more illuminating than the sun of this world. This status is only for those who spare time for the Quran and memorize the verses wholeheartedly.
